Labuan 1947 is the first memoir by Robert Knowles to be published by the Sabah Museum in August 2021.
Labuan was Knowles’ first posting in British North Borneo (BNB) just after the war. Included are superb photographs taken and selected by the author himself.
Customs officer Knowles wrote more than 40 varied topics such as smuggling, opium, various types of aircraft, Labuan airport, monuments, Customs work, family, various personalities, events, etc. Peppered with anecdotes, the memoir is a historical as well as visual account of life in Labuan in the aftermath of WW2.
