The Sabah Society recently joined forces with staff and students from Jesselton University College (JUC) for a meaningful volunteering initiative at the TAME Center, demonstrating the power of collaboration in promoting sustainability and environmental conservation.

Guided by Michael Yap, the dedicated caretaker of the TAME Center and member of The Sabah Society Committee 2024/2025, volunteers from both JUC and The Sabah Society explored the wildlife and marine life showrooms, gaining valuable insights into Sabah’s diverse ecosystems and the importance of protecting them. A tour of the center’s heritage museum highlighted TAME’s rich legacy in conservation and environmental education.

The hands-on activities were the highlight of the program. JUC students, staff, and Sabah Society members worked together to peel sticker labels from glass bottles, operate crushing machines, and sort plastics for recycling. These practical tasks provided both an educational experience and a tangible contribution to waste reduction, reinforcing the importance of sustainable practices.

For The Sabah Society, this initiative reflects our ongoing mission to empower communities and foster environmental responsibility through action and education. Working alongside JUC’s staff and students underscored the importance of engaging younger generations, equipping them with knowledge and practical skills to champion conservation efforts in the future.

This collaboration at the TAME Center is more than a single volunteering program — it serves as a foundation for long-term partnerships that promote responsible citizenship and environmental stewardship. Seeing both communities come together with a shared purpose highlights the impact of collective action in safeguarding Sabah’s natural heritage and inspiring future leaders.

The Sabah Society extends sincere gratitude to Jesselton University College for their commitment and to the TAME Center for hosting this impactful program. Together, we continue to advance our mission to know Sabah and foster a greener, more sustainable future for all.
