DESCRIPTION:Dear all\,\n \nThis week\, there is a lot of events happening in Sandakan! Super exciting!\n \nFor  tonight\, for those of you who would like to know more about landscape architecture and planning\, why not make your way down to San Da Gen to attend the talk organized by visitSandakan? They have invited Ng Seksan of the Seksan Design to talk about his passion and social impact projects in Peninsular Malaysia. Details for the talk is as follows:\n \nDate: Wednesday\, 21st August 2019 \nTime: 8 to 10 p.m.\nVenue: San Da Gen Kopitiam\, Nak Hotel\nAdmission: FREE\n \n\n \nOn another note\,  this coming weekend there will be a FRUIT FIESTA in the Rainforest Discovery Centre @ Mile 14 Details can be found in the flyer attached. I do encourage all of you to make time to attend the event. Please take note\, you still need to pay for the RDC entrance fee.\n \nApart from the food and fruits sales\, there are quite a number of exhibitions and  activities for you and your family to participate in! One of the activities\, will be the guided walk to few of the attractions in RDC. The details of the walk is as follows:\n \nDate: 24th and 25th of August 2019 (Saturday and Sunday)\nTime : 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (each session limited to 15 pax)\nDuration: 1 1/2 hours\nFees: Adult: RM 5/13-17yrs old: RM 2/ Children below 12: FREE\n \nParticipants are requested to register at the RDC’s the HUT’s counter. The walk is on a FIRST COME\, FIRST SERVE basis. At the end of the walk\, each participant will get to sample some local produce such as Fresh Belunu\, Velvet Apple and Preserved Bambangan.\n \nFor your info\, for the first walk on Saturday morning would be lead by none other than our Sabah Society Treasurer Dr Joan Pereira! Personally I have been on many walks with her and always come away learning something new. \n \nTherefore\, I strongly encourage you to come for the 9 a.m. session on this Saturday morning! SUMMARY:TSS Field Trip: Rainforest Discovery Centre Educational trip\, Sandakan  |  Fri\, 19 July 2019
DESCRIPTION:The ‘masting’ of dipterocarps is a comparatively rare phenomenon in tropical rainforests\, known most spectacularly in Southeast Asia. The last masting event in Sabah happened in 2014-2015 and we are fortunate to yet again witness another masting — this time an even more significant event than the last one. The Sabah Society is pleased to announce a special educational trip to the well-known Rainforest Discovery Centre at Sepilok\, where we will see and be introduced to the mass fruiting of dipterocarps and fruit trees along the canopy walkway\, rising to 25 m above ground level.\n\nDate: Friday\, 19 July 2019.\nTime: 10.30 am.\nMeeting place: Rainforest Discovery Centre front entrance\, Sepilok.\n\nWe are privileged to have Dr Wong Siew Te\, Dr Joan Pereira\, Dr. Robert Ong\, Ms. Eyen Khoo and Postar Miun to give us a guided tour of this wonderful forest. \n\nThis will be followed by a talk entitled ‘Mast fruiting in Borneo: The Wildlife perspective’ by Dr. Wong Siew Te at Blessing Garden in IJM\, Sandakan at 7.30 pm\n\nAll members and non- members are welcome!\n\nNominal fees of RM15 (members) and RM25 (non-members) is to be paid upon registration.\n\nEntrance fees to RDC is to be paid separately on the day of visit.\n\nMalaysian resident \nRM 7: Adults \nRM 3: Children 5-17 years old \nFree: Children below 5 years old \n\nNon-Malaysian Residents\n\nRM 15: Adults \nRM 7: Children 5-17 years old\nFree: Children below 5 years old\n\nFor further information\, please contact Secretariat at 088- 250 443 / 013 – 880 9850 (SMS or Whatsapp) or email sabahsoc@gmail.com\n\n

SUMMARY:3D2N Penang Food and Heritage Field Trip | 5 - 7 July 2019
DESCRIPTION:Penang – a world renowned exotic holiday destination – was known\, once upon a time\, as Pulau\nPinang or the “Isle of the Betel Nut”. Listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 2008\, this\nisland paradise has no shortage of cultural sights and natural scenery. Nicknamed the Pearl of the\nOrient\, Penang is famous for its sandy beaches\, kaleidoscope of cultures and is fondly regarded as\nthe food capital of Malaysia.\n\nJoin us to explore and discover the heritage and gastronomic delights of Penang!\n\nOn Day 2\, we will be visiting and durian feasts at two Balik Pulau orchards. After that\, we will select our own seafood for lunch at a fishing village\, then enjoy them cooked at a nearby coffee shop. Breakfasts and dinner of both days will be at local popular eateries. During the evening\, the trip offers an opportunity to explore the Penang heritage site and organised activities.\n\nOn Day 3\, it will be the day for us to enjoy the coastal views of Batu Feringghi beaches\, and Etopia\, the Butterfly and Insect Sanctuary. Last organised event will be a delicious Hanian cuisine lunch at the Batu Ferringhi beach.\n\nEstimated land transport :\nDay 1 : RM 200 / 10 pax (from airport\, mee udang and hotel)\nDay 2 : RM 600 / 10 pax (Balik Pulau)\n\nDay 3 : RM 600 / 10 pax ( Etiopa\, lunch and hotel. No airport transfer)\nThe above transport is for the road trips. Grab is easily available in Penang for short trips.\n\nNote:\nTo confirm booking\, RM 100 deposit by 21 June.
