The Sabah Society is pleased to welcome Joannes Solidau, the Deputy Director General of City Hall, to speak to us on the city twinning of Kota Kinabalu and Vladivostok. Vladivostok is Kota Kinabalu’s 4th sister city . Vladivostok is Russia’s largest port city on the Pacific Ocean. It is situated at the head of the Ken Goodlet, author of the soon to be published book “Tawau: The making of a Tropical Community”, will be presenting a talk to the Sabah Society on the same subject at 19:30 on Thursday 1st July at the Secretariat. One of the most experienced experts concerning the culture and traditions of this extraordinary ethnic community is social anthropologist Dr Clifford Sather. He is the author of “The Bajau Laut : Adaptation, Mr. Joseph Lee will present a talk on “The Individual and the Environment” to the Sabah Society on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 7:30pm at The Secretariat Mr. Lee is a Sabahan and a graduate of Lancaster University, UK. Mr. Lee will talk about recycling and the contribution each individual can make to cleaning up Dr Hotlin Ompusunggu and Ms Elizabeth Bast, who are briefly visiting Kota Kinabalu, will present a talk about the work of Project ASRI in West Kalimantan on Thursday 15th April, at the Secretariat, 7.30pm. This project partners with local communities to integrate high quality, affordable health care with strategies to protect the rainforest. Please accept Mr Ross Ibbotson will present a talk on Trade and Strife around Borneo. – The Austronesian’s, particularly the Indonesian/Malay/ Philippine group (referred to loosely as “Malays” are probably the earliest seafarers in world history. This paper, illustrated with over 60 photographs and maps, deals with the earliest evidence of ocean travel, the subsequent voyages of A date for the diary, there will be a presentation of “The Highlights of the last 50 Years” given at the Sabah Society Secretariat on Tuesday 16th March commencing at 7:30 pm Datuk Mike Steel will be giving The Sabah Society a presentation on the work of the Orang Utans Foundation. The presentation will be held at The Sabah Society Secretariat at No. 46, 1st Floor, Lot 34, Block E, Damai Plaza Phase 4, Luyang, Kota Kinabalu Commencing at 7:30 pm. As the first event in The Sabah Society’s Golden Jubilee year, we are very pleased to welcome the six women from The Sabah Society who will be attempting to re-trace the original route taken by Lilian Gibbs and her team during their ascent of Mount Kinabalu.
