Jared Abdul-Rahman is an aspiring, young Sabahan filmmaker whose films have received international attention at various film festivals, such as the European Independent Film Festival (France), Monaco Charity Film Festival (Monaco), End of the Pier International Film Festival (UK), Best Shorts Competition (USA) and In The Bin Short Film Festival (Australia).
In addition to specialising in short films, Jared’s talent for writing, directing, producing, editing and cinematography also extends to music videos. Since his award-winning first music video for Mia Palencia’s The Revolutionary Hum, he has been involved with various other artists’ music videos and is currently producing a series of acoustic session videos featuring emerging artists.
Jared’s experience with musicians and composers, together with his understanding of music and film, has seen him take on the role of Consulting Film Director at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music, where he works with film composition students to produce film scores. Jared also mentors young filmmakers and screen actors to develop their skills through Screen Australia initiatives.
Jared has also been involved in feature-length films, including Macbeth 1040 AD and Breeding in Captivity, working as 3rd Assistant Director on both. Other larger productions that he has worked on include the popular talent reality television show X Factor Australia, television commercials, and freelance video work for clients such as the Museum of New and Old Art (MONA), University of Tasmania, and PETRONAS.
